Peter J. "Pete" Moynihan

March 31, 1940 — January 12, 2025

Mr. Peter J "Pete" Moynihan, a lifelong Little Falls resident, went home to be with the Lord rejoining his dear wife Kathy in heaven on Sunday evening, January 12, 2025, at Little Falls Hospital, following a short illness. He was 84.

Pete was born in Little Falls on March 31, 1940, son of the late John and Mary (Jones) Moynihan and proudly raised and educated in the City of Little Falls, where he made many good friends. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, Class of 1958. This is where he met the love of his life. His marriage to his beloved Kathy (Griffith) took place on June 17, 1961, at St. Joseph’s Church, in Dolgeville. They were lifelong sweethearts, and this was a true romance of love and devotion. Mrs. Moynihan passed away on Jan. 4, 2020, and Pete would visit his wife's grave just about every day. Pete was last employed with Niagara Mohawk (National Grid), retiring after 31 years of dedicated service as a gas foreman. Pete was a devoted communicant of Holy Family Parish, Little Falls.

Pete and his wife enjoyed camping in earlier years. They would love their trips every year to South Bend, Indiana to watch Notre Dame Football and in later years they went on several bust trips and enjoyed going to the casino whenever they could. Pete extended his warm reception to anyone who came into his home where many memories were made, a home he always took meticulous care of. His friends were always met with open arms and treated with his gracious hospitality. He was proud of his Irish heritage.

Survivors include his children, Cheryl Moynihan of Utica, Jeff Moynihan and wife Sandy of Little Falls, Tim Moynihan and wife Quita of Herkimer, Debbie Moynihan of Little Falls and Cindy Grebas and husband Vince of Prince George, VA; a brother, Terry Moynihan and wife Jeanne of Arizona; his grandchildren, Carissa, Evan, Cassie, Brittany, Amanda, Elizabeth, Cory and Brian; great grandchildren, Adalynn, Declan and Ally; nieces, nephews, cousins and in laws, Jerry Griffith and wife Sue of Little Falls, Monica Healy and husband Mike of Tully, Rosalie Halloran and husband John of Latham. Also surviving is his true and dear friend, Joe DeLorenzo of Little Falls, along with many other close friends and neighbors.

Pete’s funeral will commence at 12 pm on Friday, January 17, 2025, from Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, Little Falls, 315-508-5131 (Daniel J. Enea-Director) with the Rev. Brian Slezak, pastor of Holy Family Parish, Little Falls officiating. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 11 am until 12 pm, prior to the service. He will be laid to rest in the spring with his wife at St. Mary’s Cemetery, town of Herkimer. Kindly consider memorial offerings in his name to the Holy Family Parish Restoration Fund; envelopes are available at the funeral home.
