Obituary

Leon E. Everson, Sr.
Herkimer

Leon E. Everson, Sr., 78, of Herkimer, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020, in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, with his loving family by his side, following a brief illness.

He was born on June 17, 1942, the son of the late Ernest W. and Mildred G. Hazzard Everson. On April 13, 1974, Leon married the former Margaret Austin and the couple enjoyed thirty eight years together until her passing on July 27, 2012. They we lifelong residents of the Mohawk Valley, where they settled to raise their family.

Prior to his retirement, Leon was a driver for Richard Obreza Trucking, Mohawk for many years. He was an avid bowler and even when he was unable to bowl himself, Leon was always supporting and cheering on his family whom loved bowling as well. He also enjoyed fishing any chance he could, he enjoyed being able to sit on his porch with his ginger brandy on the rocks and appreciate the company of his family and friends. Leon relished loading his kids up and taking long scenic road trips. He enjoyed telling us the same stories of how it was growing up and driving the milk truck. These are just some of the memories we will cherish forever.

Leon is survived by his children, Joseph Everson and companion, Theresa Bennett, Jamie and Maria Everson, all of Ilion; Jeff and Bonnie Everson of Herkimer, Jenny Everson of Ilion, Julie Everson and companion, Deborah Wiley of Ft. Edward, Timothy and Kristin Austin of South Carolina, Leon E. Everson, Jr and companion, Karen Thompson of Herkimer, Tammy and Scot Sill of Utica, Norman and Adriana Warham of Morrisville, Devon Everson, Alexis and Dan Hayes , Ian Everson, Chase Everson, Chance Everson and Christian Everson, all of Herkimer;
His siblings and spouses, Myrtle and Jim Cramer of Palatine Bridge, Mary Ann and Don Durfee, Stanley Everson and fiancé, Cathy Terns, Janet and Joe Hyney, John and Danyel Everson, Mike and Nan Everson, all of Mohawk, Susan Everson, Judy and Ted Hight, Pam Everson Walters, all of Ilion, Donna Everson of Alabama, Margie and Joe Degristina of Little Falls, Patty and Dale Hight of Schuyler, Joan and Bill Hyney of Starkville; many grandchildren ,great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Leon’s internment service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2020, in Mt. View Memorial Gardens, Shells Bush Road, Little Falls, with Pastor Eugene Kipper, officiating. In keeping Leon’s wishes there will be no public visitation. All Covid Regulations will be followed and we kindly ask people attending to please wear a mask.

Leon and his family’s care have been placed in the trust of Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, Town of Manheim, between Little Falls and St. Johnsville.
