Joan Beverly Snell Feesche

February 27, 1938 ~ November 1, 2018 (age 80)

Clinton, NY-Mrs. Joan Beverly Snell Feesche, age 80, of Clinton, beloved wife of Hans-Peter Paul Hugo Feesche, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, November 1, 2018 at the Lutheran Home, Clinton.

Joan Beverly Snell Feesche was born in LaFargeville, NY on February 27, 1938 to Lawrence Walrath Snell and Bernice Wetterhahn. She was the youngest of three daughters.

Joan married Hans-Peter Paul Hugo Feesche on January 6, 1961, in LaFargeville. Hans (aka Jack) was born in Germany, and had numerous pen-pals around the world, of which Joan became one. She and Hans fell in love while corresponding, and he decided to come to America to live. When his initial employment didn’t work out as planned, he decided to join the US Marines and was stationed at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. Joan did not enjoy being a military spouse, and after Hans’ four years of exemplary service as a German citizen in the US Marines, he left the Marines and they moved to Syracuse, then back to LaFargeville.

They had their first daughter, Monika, in December 1961, and their second daughter, Veronika in February 1963. Joan was a housewife, and occasionally babysat children in her home, keeping in contact with some for many years afterwards.

In her late 60’s Joan’s health began to decline, and she was bedridden in her 70’s. Hans cared for her night and day, he insured she was as happy and comfortable for as long as he possibly could.  In late 2016, Joan relocated to the Utica area, and in 2017 Hans relocated to the area as well. In mid-2018 Joan and Hans both moved to LutheranCare in Clinton, NY, where they were only three doors down from each other. Joan passed peacefully at 8am on November 1.

Joan is survived by Hans, her devoted husband of 57 years; her sisters, MariJean (and Albert Schaefer, Baldwinsville), Joyce Jewell (Baldwinsville); her daughters, Monika (Allen, Watertown) and Veronika (and Gil Freeman, Frankfort); two grandchildren, Robert Feesche and Emma Allen; her niece, Diane Zobro (Cato); nephew, Andrew Parker and his partner, Mary Yablonski (Baldwinsville).

Anyone who knew Joan knew how much she loved her cats. There was always a cat in their home, and she supported pet causes. She entrusted her “feline family’s” care to the Thousand Island Animal Hospital, Dr. Roger Gillett, and their wonderful staff – they always went above and beyond in her eyes.  The family would also like to acknowledge the loving, compassionate care Joan received while a resident of LutheranCare. All the support and nursing staff, and especially those in the Saul Unit, were generous with their time and concern for both her and her family’s needs. Each made her last few months as comfortable as possible. The LutheranCare family are truly a blessing to Hans and Veronika during this sad time.

In lieu of flowers there are a couple ways you can honor Joan’s life. You could make donations to the TI Animal Hospital (http://www.1000islandanimalhospital.com/) and/or your local animal shelter.
