German Flatts, NY-Mr. Paul W. Dekanek, age 74, of State Route 5s, (Dekanek Dairy Farm), passed away unexpectedly of natural causes in the comfort of the Dekanek family home.

He was born on Feb. 10, 1944 in Ilion, son of the late Paul and Vera (Ferguson) Dekanek and educated and graduated from Mohawk High School.  Paul lended a hand on the family farm as a young man.  He was employed by the Genesee Brewing Co., Remington Arms, and most recently, he was a truck driver working for various construction companies.

Paul was well-known as the one who raised and showed top quality chickens, being affectionately known as "Smokey Hollow" and received many awards for this passion.  He was very dedicated about raising the chickens and it was proven so by the respect he gained from those who interacted with him and enjoyed this hobby.  He was an avid outdoorsman and trapper, loving many breeds of animals.  Paul enjoyed his Sunday drives, especially with his best friend, Charlie.  He was extremely proud of his grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

Survivors include his children; Glenn Dekanek of Gloversville and Christopher Dekanek and wife Wendy of Savannah, GA; a sister, Nancy Bishal and husband Bob of Mohawk along with their children Brad Bishal and Jace Bishal; his best friend, Charlie Smith who resided next to him; grandchildren, Alexis and Caitlyn and Emily and Addison; his former wife and best friend, Claire Dekanek of Port St. Lucie, FL; also surviving are other extended family members.
