Alice Louise (Smallenberger) Haefele

Ilion-Mrs. Alice Louise Haefele, age 89, of Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, passed away on Thursday evening, January 12, 2017  She passed away peacefully at that facility.   She was born in Utica on July 6, 1927, daughter of the late Henry and Marion (Wills) Smallenberger.  Mrs. Haefele was educated in local schools and was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk.  She considered her job and foremost priority taking care of her family and home.  On April 10, 1948, she was united in marriage with Robert C. Haefele, with whom she shared a blessed and loving union of 68 dedicated years.   Survivors include her husband Robert; sons, Robert C. Haefele Jr., and wife Mary of Mohawk and John H. Haefele and wife Lynn of Whitesboro; eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren; two sisters in law, Pat Smallenberger of TN and Shirley Haefele of Rochester along with numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Nicholson and by a brother, Henry Smallenberger.  In keeping with her wishes, there are no public calling hours.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a Mass of Christian Burial which will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk, in the spring. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer.  Kindly consider memorial offerings in her name to Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion or Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk.   The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Mohawk Valley Health Care Center in Ilion for the wonderful treatment she received over the last two years.  Alice will be remembered for her green thumb and her love of shopping.  Special thanks to Dr. Mian and the nurses at St. Luke's ICU and AC3 West for the compassionate care Alice received.  Funeral and cremation arrangements are under the caring guidance of Daniel J. Enea Funeral and Cremation Care, 5860 State Route 5 (near St. Mary's Cemetery), between Herkimer and Little Falls, 508-5250.
