Mr. Allan R. Steenburg, Sr., age 88, of Jordanville, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, Nov. 25, 2024, at Foltsbrook Center for Nursing and Rehab, Herkimer.
He was born on May 17, 1936 in East Springfield, NY son of the late Ralph and Blanche (Moyer) Steenburg and educated in schools in Springfield. Allan went to work for his parents and alongside his brothers and sisters on the family farm at a young age, right after his father passed away suddenly from a heart attack at age 45. He was united in marriage to his wife, Eva and they bought a farm, which they operated on Wiltse Road, Van Hornesville. The couple had five children. He moved to Starkville after having a family and bought a home on Frog City Road. Allan worked for Fort Plain Meat Packing Company for many years and worked for Bruce Hall, Jordanville Stone Quarry, always working hard to make sure his family was taken care of. Many years later, Allan moved back to the other end of Wiltse Hill Road to retire and be full time with his family.
Allan was a family man and loved nothing more than to visit with his loved ones. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and was passionate about deer hunting. He also was a gun collector. Allan possessed a friendly nature. A hard worker, he always provided for his family. As a dad and grandfather, Allan was admired. He was protective and gave the best fatherly advice laced with paternal wisdom. His children now know the profit of his words and live by the values he instilled in them. Wherever he was, Allan drew people in, most often through his great personality. He always brought so many people together in joy and will be dearly missed by all those fortunate enough to have known him.
Survivors include his beloved family; his wife, Hazel; his five children, Patti Smith of Dolgeville, Judy Cauwenberghs of Canajoharie, Allan R.
