Mrs. Anne E. Dupont, age 99, of Castle Road, Newport passed away peacefully on Monday morning, February 17, 2025, at Alpine Nursing and Rehab, Little Falls.
She was born on March 28, 1925, in Remsen, NY daughter of the late John and Katherine (Lozinska) Senchyna (who came from Ukraine) and educated in Remsen school houses. Anne was raised in a large hardworking family and those values were instilled in her at a young age. From 1943 until 1944 Anne was employed with Rome Area Depot (now Griffiss Airforce Base) as Rosie the Riveter. Rosie the Riveter is a cultural icon in the US which represented the women who worked in factories and shipyards during WWII, many of whom produced munitions and war supplies and worked on military planes such as the B-52 Bomber. These women sometimes took entirely new jobs replacing the male workers who joined the military. Rosie is widely recognized by the “We Can Do It” slogan. Anne had to leave this job to take care of her ill mother. In 1948, she was united in marriage with Laurence Dupont. He passed away July 14, 2004. Mr. and Mrs. Dupont were longtime area farmers. They ran a farm in the Town of Russia, then the Zoller Farm in Newville, and finally the Col. Teal Farm in Newport. Mrs. Dupont loved watching birds, cooking, her cats and enjoyed mowing her 3-acre lawn which she did until the age of 97.
Survivors include her devoted son, Laurence Dupont of Newport; her close sister, Leona Senchyna of Newport; her cherished grandchildren, Sarah Jaquay and husband David of Dolgeville and Israel Dupont of Frankfort; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, John, Irene, Olga, Myron, Al and Joe.
A graveside service will take place in the spring at a time to be announced at French Road Cemetery, Remsen. There are no calling hours. The family would like to offer their deepest gratitude to the entire staff at Alpine Nursing and Rehab, Little Falls for their compassion offered. In Anne’s memory, kindly consider a contribution to the Alpine facility. Arrangements for cremation are under the direction and care of Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, Little Falls, 31-508-5131.
