Arthur James Egan, Sr., affectionately known as Art or AJ (age 88), of Salisbury Center, New York passed away peacefully at Albany Medical Center on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.  At the time of his passing he had his loving family by his side as they had been all week since his accident occurred on Tuesday, October 24th.

Art was born on June 29, 1935 in Gloversville, the son of the late Arthur Elmer Egan and Elizabeth (Green) Egan. He was educated at Fonda Fultonville Central School. He worked on farms in Sammonsville, NY in his younger years and later helped on his son’s farm in Fairfield. He was employed by Lee Dye in Johnstown for many years and then Somerset in Gloversville. Beginning in the 1990’s, Art worked with his wife and her family at a restaurant in Salisbury Center and in 2001 they built their own restaurant a few miles up the road named Covered Bridge Convenience where they worked together for many years until it was taken over by his son and daughter in-law and is still ran by them today. Art was a big New York Jets and New York Mets fan and even in the tough years never stopped rooting for both. He was a lover of anything his children and loved ones did including their sports, concerts and much more, he was always there and rooting for those he loved. He leaves behind many friends who thought the world of him. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing and hunting. Art was a member of the Salisbury Volunteer Fire Department for 45 years and a loving man who had a big, loving family.

He is survived by his loving wife at home, Christine (Burton) Egan who he was united to in marriage for 37 years. He is also survived by five children, Lorraine (Roger) Petterson, Vicky (John) Bowdish, Derek (Kayla) Egan, Michael (Heather) Manchester and Robert (Jody) Manchester. He had twenty five grandchildren, Butch (Lucinda) Egan, Heather (Dan) Moore, Justin (Marylou) Egan, Alicia Savoie, Jason Savoie, Dale (Kristi) Gray Jr, Carrie Gray, Russel (Allie) Bellinger, Hannah (Simon) Segal, Zachary (Emalee) Bellinger, JP (Tammy) Bowdish, Jeannette (Tom) Bowdish, Janie (Chris) Hickey, Jennifer (Greg) Young, Jessica (Jason) Castle, Ayden Egan, Addison Egan, Gregory Manchester, Kiersten (Devin) Gee, Alyson Manchester, Cameron Manchester, Austen (Brook) Manchester, Marshall Manchester, Mari Ahna Manchester and Emily Manchester. He had many great grandchildren, one being very special to him Brittany (Bowdish) Herkenham. He also had many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his siblings and their spouses Ronald (Joan) Egan, Shirley (Nelson) Ambridge and Janice (Gene) Frederick, his son Arthur James Egan Jr, his daughter Sharon Savoie and his first wife Lydia (Ambridge) Egan.

Art will be remembered not only for his work ethic and intelligence but how much he loved his family and friends. A finer and kinder man was not known, he would do anything for anyone and often did. To say he will be missed would be an understatement for he is and will always be loved by many. All those who knew him were very lucky but those he loved were truly blessed.
