Herkimer, NY-Barbara Skinner Baker, died peacefully at the Folts Home in Herkimer with her family by her side, on Monday February 19, 2018 at 85 years of age. Born on July 25, 1932 in Ilion, New York. The youngest of seven siblings, she later moved to Inlet where she met and married Arthur E Baker Jr. in 1951. Together they owned and operated Bakers Motel and Bakers Motor Court, making Old Forge their life long home. Barbara was also an employee of the Old Forge Tourist Information Center, where she enjoyed greeting visitor's daily. Barbara was a loving mother and grandmother. She leaves behind three children, Lynda Baker Kashiwa, husband Bucky (Santa Fe, NM), Robert Baker, wife Lorraine Mott(Manlius, NY); and Bonnie Baker and friend Craig Frateschi (Old Forge, NY), nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Our mother taught us the value of hard work and persistence. Always sharing a wonderful sense of humor, she was able to see the bright side of most days. During times of trial and tribulation, she was able to acknowledge both sides with out choosing over the other. These values we will carry through out our lives and she will be missed dearly. A celebration of her life will be held this summer. In leiu of flowers, please make contributions in Barbara's memory to MAC Ride of Old Forge. Daniel J. Enea Funeral and Cremation Care, 5860 State Route 5 (near St. Mary's Cemetery) between Herkimer and Little Falls, 315-508-5250, has been entrusted with Mrs. Baker's funeral arrangements.
