Barbara Ann (Willoughby) Barnes

Barbara A. (Willoughby) Barnes, age 84, formerly of Ames, beloved wife of the late Ivan A. Barnes, passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, May 4, 2021 at Bethany Gardens Skilled Living Center, with her loving family by her side.
She was born on October 28th, 1936 in Long Beach, California. She was the daughter of the late Kenneth Willoughby and Jennie Baity. On December 22, 1953 Barbara married the love of her life, Ivan A. Barnes. A graduate of Sharon Springs Central School District, Barbara went on to work as a phone operator. She then worked in the Canajoharie School District cafeteria until starting a job at Central National Bank as a bank teller. Barbara took many courses at the bank and eventually worked her way up to a loan officer which is the position she held until she retired. Barbara and Ivan purchased a 50 plus acre farm on Latimer Hill Road, Ames where they raised their family. She loved to spend time with her family, her sense of humor is something all of us will never forget.
Barbara is survived by her loving family, three sons: Danny and Sally Barnes, Steven Sr. and Linda Barnes, and Dean Barnes. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jessica and Brian Synenki, Geoffrey and Samantha Barnes, Brett and Brandee Barnes, Corey Barnes and fiancé Cassie, Derek Barnes, Andrew and Mary Barnes, Raelynn Gerula, Jennifer and Richard Solby, and Steven Jr. and Megan Barnes. Nineteen great grandchildren; Maddie, Emma, Amelia, Hailey, Chase, Zane, Xander, Savannah, Ryan, Trace, Garrett, Hendrix, Colter, Samantha and fiancé Corey, Brandon, Sean, Mackenzie, Braylee, and Colton as well as one great great grandchild, Jordan. Barbara is also survived by her stepmother Cynthia Frier as well as four siblings, Michael Willoughby, Austin Willoughby, Irene Willoughby, and Kam Jackson.
Barbara and her family's care has been entrusted to Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5 (corner of Bidleman Road), Little Falls, 315-508-5131. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Bethany Gardens Skilled Living Center in Rome for their compassion and care, donations to their facility can be made at the funeral home or by sending a check to Bethany Gardens Skilled Living Center, 800 West Chestnut Street Rome, NY 13340. Visitation for Barbara will take place Monday, May 10th, from 12pm- 2pm at the funeral home prior to her funeral service commencing at 2pm. Burial services will follow immediately after at Ames Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband Ivan.
