Barbara A. "Barb" (DeNitto) Petrie

Little Falls, New York

A lifelong Little Falls resident, Barbara A. (DeNitto) Petrie, 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 21, 2024 at the Abraham House, Utica.

Barb worked at many local manufacturers including Allegro Shoe Company and LaSalle’s. Upon retiring, she enjoyed working as a crossing guard at Benton Hall Elementary School. Throughout her life, she was an avid country music fan. Barb made many visits to Hunter Mountain music festivals as well as regular trips to Loretta Lynn’s ranch in Tennessee. Loretta Lynn was her all time favorite country singer. Barb also enjoyed doing daily puzzles on her computer and sitting with her beloved dog, Sam.

Barb is preceded in death by her parents, Christopher and Doris DeNitto, her sister, Loretta Peterson, and two infant sons. She is survived by her daughters, Kim (Eric) Olbrich of Virginia, and Jennifer (Chad) Polnak of Little Falls, her son, Joseph (Beth) Petrie of Niagara Falls. Barb leaves her granddaughters, Samantha (Mike) Frohm of Messina and Winter Polnak (Rich Rinaldi) of Ravena, NY. She also had one great grandson, Shepherd Frohm. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends, including Pork Chop Perkov, Flo Shepard, Diane Giarrusso, Tony and Millie Federico.

The family would like to offer gratitude to Dr. Amy Grace and to Hospice and Palliative Care of New Hartford, especially Judy, Angela, and Ashley for their care. A special thank you to the staff at the Utica Abraham House, Gina, Kim, Missy and the entire staff, for the amazing care they gave Barb during her final days.

In lieu of flowers, kindly consider and send memorial donations in Barb's name to Hospice Care, Inc. of New Hartford or the Abraham House of Utica.  In keeping with Barb’s wishes, there will be no public calling hours or service.  Her funeral arrangements are under the direction and care of the locally/family owned Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131.
