Mr. Bernard L. "Bernie" Fuller, age 78, of Southern Avenue, passed away unexpectedly following a brief illness on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Little Falls Hospital.
Bernard was born on September 12, 1945, in Torrance, California to the late Alden and Helen “Edith” Fuller. He grew up in Bernhards Bay and graduated from Central Square high school in 1963. He furthered his education and graduated from SUNY Oswego in 1967. Bernie's career as a high school teacher began in Kahuku, Hawaii, teaching Industrial Arts. Thus began his love of the Islands. In 1973 he began teaching traffic safety at SUNY Oswego. Finally, he became a General Contractor in Oswego, where he owned his own business, and was responsible for building 77 homes in the area. The love for Hawaii brought him back there to finish out his career, where he built many multi-million-dollar ocean front homes with the help of his nephew, Nick Ferraro. While there, he enjoyed sharing the Aloha spirit with all his friends and family who visited. He was a true tour guide, sharing his knowledge of the “real” Hawaii.
Bernie was a man of tremendous faith. He always said he was a “billboard for the Lord,” as evidenced by the many shirts he wore. He cherished his first Bible, given to him by his mom. After reading it through, he became a changed man who lived a life of service and love for others.
Bernie is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Ellen (Talaba) Fuller. As well as, his brother Pete (Carol) Fuller, sister-in-law Loretta Fuller, sister-in-law Paulette (Salvi) Ferraro, brother-in-law David (Patricia) Talaba; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy Fuller, Donald (Kathy) Fuller, Kenneth (Marcia) Fuller, and Paul Fuller.
There will be no calling hours. A celebration of Bernie’s life will be held at a later date. Bernard and his family’s care has been entrusted to Daniel J. Enea -Director of owner operated Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131.
