Betty M. (Williams) Helmer

Ilion, NY- Betty (Williams) Helmer of Ilion, NY passed away peacefully on July 19, 2018. She was born in Ilion, NY on January 28, 1927 daughter of the late Walter and Laurel (Hendrix) Williams. She married Leon Helmer on December 4, 1948. They were married 34 years before his passing in 1983. Betty attended Mohawk schools and was employed at Duofold in Mohawk/Ilion for many years. When she retired she became a greeter at the Herkimer, Wal-Mart. Betty is survived by her three sons and their wives, Leon Helmer and Teddy, Gary Helmer, Kenneth Helmer and Lucy; a sister and brother-in-law, June and Jake Clark; sister in-law, Vera Williams; six grandchildren, Leon (Skipper), Dawn, Annette, Matthew, Michael, and Katelin; nine great-grandchildren and her dear friend, Joanie Crim. She was predeceased by her husband Leon, son Michael, sister Helen Davis, and brothers Walter and Clarence Williams. Betty loved traveling and spending time with her friends and family. She will be missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank the staff at Mohawk Valley Health Care Center and Catholic Charities. Friends and family are asked to consider making donations to Catholic Charities, Ilion, in lieu of flowers.  There will be no calling hours.  A graveside service and gathering of friends and family will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Herkimer, on Tuesday, July 24th at 12:00 p.m, to which all are invited to attend. Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations (Daniel J.
