Clare H. Rosenberger

November 21, 1935 — January 15, 2025

Mrs. Clare Haygood Rosenberger, age 89, a longtime Stratford resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, following a brief illness.

Clare was born on November 21, 1935, in Louisville, KY, the daughter of the late Dr.Tyler F. & Leah C. Haygood. She received her education at various schools in Alexandria & Buena Vista, VA. As it happened one day, her (late) brother William Dale Haygood introduced her to his friend and fellow US Army soldier, (the late) George Rosenberger, Jr. This wonderful introduction resulted in George and Clare being married September 4, 1954, in Alexandria, VA. Over the years, the couple resided in Bloomingburg, Arcade, and finally Stratford, NY. Mr. Rosenberger passed away January 1, 2020.

During her early life, Clare was a “Brownie”, Girl Scout, and “Candy Striper” volunteer for a local hospital. She also played flute and joined choral groups in her high school years. In her adult years, Clare worked as a clerk typist and sold Avon for 15 yrs. She also headed the local library, instructed 4H sewing classes, taught ceramics, gardened, bird-watched, and was an accomplished archer. She also sang in and directed church choirs, helped lead youth groups with her husband, and made quilting kits for cancer patients. She was also a member of a favorite singing group known as “the Sweet Adelines.” Some of Clare’s favorite pastimes were Bible reading/study, “puzzling”, playing scrabble, Chinese checkers, and card games, watching her favorite TV game shows, westerns, Hallmark channel, and good old Perry Mason.

One of Clare’s most important lifetime accomplishments was as an area representative for Christian Women’s Club of Sullivan County, NY. Her greatest desire was for people not to just know about Jesus but know Him in a real and meaningful way. In later years she spent many hours as a great prayer warrior, interceding for the lives and needs of many. She was a beloved member of Dolgeville Christian Fellowship.

Clare is survived by her most beloved children and their families: George (lll) & Kathy Rosenberger, of Hudson, NC, Suzanne & Jeffrey Ecker of Stratford, NY, Grace & Robert Krenrich of Benson, NC. She is also survived by her thirteen grandchildren (including her special caregiver/companion Becky Ecker), and fifteen great-grandchildren. Also, she is survived by her niece and husband, Debbie & Steve Moomey with their children, Christina and Elizabeth.

Clare’s celebration of life will be held at Dolgeville Christian Fellowship on Sunday, February 2nd, at 12:30 pm following regularly scheduled services, with Pastor Marvin Isum, officiating. There are no calling hours. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of family. Contributions in her memory may be given to Dolgeville Christian Fellowship, 3 Elm St., Dolgeville, NY 13329, w/notation for CHR handicap/driveway fund.
