Daniel S. Begley

Daniel S. Begley, age 59, of State Route 5, (Town of Manheim), husband of Melinda Begley, passed away suddenly on Wednesday morning, November 29, 2023 in Little Falls.

Dan was born on January 2, 1964 to Edward J. Begley and Susanne Gallogly Begley. He grew up with his parents, sister and brothers in his family home in Mohawk, surrounded by his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. He graduated from Mohawk High School In 1982. Dan married Melinda Schuyler Begley on October 11, 1986. Dan and Mindy were blessed with their beautiful daughter Susanne Schuyler Begley on June 9, 2005.

In addition to Dan’s “legendary” status throughout the Mohawk Vally for various reasons, Dan was a locally well respected auto mechanic among auto repair garages, having worked as an automobile mechanic for over 40 years, with Cole Muffler and Foor’s Auto Repair until his physical disability which prevented him from continuing his work. Dan did have a 2 1/2 year hiatus during his employment with Foor’s to become a stay at home Dad after the birth of Susanne. He had also worked as wait staff at the Whiffletree in Ilion where he formed life long friendships, in particular with John Brown and Peg, and also drove bus for ARC.

Dan loved driving all vehicles, automobiles, snowmobiles, motorcycles, and had done that since the early age of 5 years old when his father and uncles sent him on his way out the back field with an open throttle. He always said that was the beginning of his thrill for speed. Dan was well known for mumbling, and somehow, those close to him could still understand what he was saying, especially if it was one of his all too common witty comments. Dan was one of the most unique individuals in this world. He loved his family, immediate and extended, his dogs, his home, his friends, his coworkers, his beer, catching a buzz of any kind, and he loved his music, the louder he could play it.

Dan is survived by his wife, Melinda, daughter, Susanne, brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Rebecca Begley, Ilion, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William III and Diane Schuyler, PA, sister-in-law Carol Begley, mother-in-law, Karen Owens (NC), nieces, Brittany, Madeline, Lauralynn and Julianna, along with aunts, uncles, and many cousins, and he and Susanne’s special dog, Athena. Dan is also survived by his first set of children who each of their parents so graciously shared with Dan and Mindy, Chad and Jennifer Liddon, Curtis and Victoria Rockwell, Matthew Liddon and Zoe Rangel and Courtney Liddon, together with their children, Malcolm, Emilia, Jordyn and Mykah. Dan now can be reunited with all that have predeceased him, mother, Susanne, father, Edward, sister, Linda, brother, Edward, father-in-law, William, Jr., grandparents, among aunts and uncles his very special Uncle Dave, and among friends, his very special friend, Michael, and all of his beloved dogs, especially Ross.

Funeral service will be at Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, Town of Manheim, 315-508-5131 at 4 pm on Saturday, December 9, 2023.  You may pay your respects at MVFC on Saturday, Dec. 9th from 2-4 pm, prior to the service. A celebration of his life will follow at the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club. Spring interment will take place at Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills.
