Darlene S. (Brown) Collins

December 31, 1969 — November 5, 2018

Millers Mills, NY-Mrs. Darlene S. (Brown) Collins, a lifelong Millers Mills resident, beloved wife of James Collins, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, November 5, 2018 in the peace and comfort of her home and in the loving presence of her entire family. She was born on May 17th, 1936 in Mohawk, daughter of the late George Firman and Helen Munch Brown and educated in West Winfield schools.  On July 23, 1955 she was joined in marriage with James Collins at Millers Mills Community Church with the Rev. James Benes, officiating; a loving union of 63 years.  She and her husband owned and operated Collins Greenhouse and Florist in Millers Mills for over 35 years.   Mrs. Collins was a talented and creative artist.  She enjoyed the outdoors especially camping in the Adirondacks and at Lewey Lake.  Darlene was extremely devoted to her loved ones.  Family and friends came first in her life, always putting the needs of them first.  She especially enjoyed the many great times with all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Survivors include her loving family; her husband, James at home; her children, James Collins, Christy Helmer, Russell Collins and fiance Theresa, David Collins and wife Donna, Diane Swanteson and husband John, Lou-Ann Adams and husband Jeffrey; twelve grandchildren; seven great grandchildren with number eight due on Easter; her siblings, Carolyn Brown, Keith Brown and wife Vivian, Kevin Brown and wife Sherrilyn and sister in law, Janet Brown; many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death a brother, Allen "Buzz" Brown and by son in law, Michael Helmer.    Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5 (corner of Bidelman Road), between Little Falls and St Johnsville, 315-508-5131 has been entrusted with Mrs. Collins' funeral arrangements.  In respecting her wishes, there will be no formal calling hours.  Kindly consider memorial offerings in Mrs. Collins' name to the Millers Mills Community Church, 647 Millers Mills Road, West Winfield, NY 13491.  The Collins family would like to offer their deepest gratitude to Hospice Care Inc., the medical staffs at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center and Faxton Cancer Center, and Dr. A.
