Donald G. Congdon, age 85, of Flint Ave., Little Falls, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2021 due to complications of pneumonia at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was born on March 10th,1936 in Canajoharie, NY and was the son of the late Clarence and Lillian Congdon and educated in local schools. On July 28th1955, Donald was united in marriage to the former Joan McGowan in Little Falls; a loving and devoted union of 65 years and the couple were blessed with twelve children. Donald was a former employee of the Daniel Green Shoe Company where he retired after many years of dedicated service.

Donald was a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle who will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. In his leisure time he loved spending time with and being surrounded by his cherished family. His favorite time was Sunday dinner, every Sunday with them. He enjoyed the hobby of collecting. He was a wonderful bowler and loved to watch NASCAR and horse racing at OTB. When recently asked how do you do it with twelve children, Don replied “you love every single one the same.”

Donald is survived by his large and loving family; his wife of sixty five years, Joan Congdon at home; daughter Ann Marie Mika of Herkimer, NY, son, Donald Congdon and wife Brenda of Little Falls, NY, daughter, Theresa Vrooman and husband John of Hampton, VA, daughter, Lynn Pope of Little Falls, NY, daughter, Nadine Pope of Little Falls, NY, son, Jeffery Congdon of Fultonville, NY, daughter, Brenda Pope and husband Bill of Clayton, NC, son, Brian Congdon and wife Debbie of Rochester, NY, daughter, Colleen Congdon and Thomas Adamovich of Zebulon, NC, son, Kevin Congdon and wife Melissa of Little Falls, NY and son, Gregory Congdon and wife Nina of Little Falls, NY. Donald is also survived by his sister, Edie Sheen of Copenhagen, NY, sister, Myrtle Fuhs and husband Bob of Fort Plain, NY, brother, Frederick Congdon of Fort Plain, NY, brother, Earl Congdon and Geraldine of Nelliston, NY, sister, Lois Weber and David of Fort Plain, NY as well as several adored grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Besides his parents, Clarence and Lillian Congdon, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Congdon, his daughter, Tammy L. Congdon, and grandchildren, James Anthony Pope, Nichole A. Schuyler and Alicia M. Dager.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Donald’s funeral service commencing on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at 2 pm from the chapel of Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5 (corner of Bidleman and Route 5), between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, prior to the service, from 12 noon until 2 pm. He will be laid to rest later in the spring in Curtis Cemetery, town of Salisbury. COVID precautions will be observed. Temperatures will be taken and social distancing will be observed. Physical contact is discouraged at this time.
