Mr. Duane L. “Louie” “Cy” “Sonny” “Bossman” Young, age 85, of Burwell Street, passed away on Sunday morning, May 2, 2021 in the peace and comfort of his home. At the time of his passing, he was in the presence of his loved ones and receiving tender, loving care from our Hospice angels.

He was born in Ilion, on April 19, 1936, son of the late Francis and Daisy (Larkin) Young and educated in Middleville schools. Duane was united in marriage on June 28, 1958 with Barbara J. Suits at the Ephratah Methodist Church with the Rev. Harry Pettingill, officiating. The couple have shared a blessed union of 62 years filled with love and constant companionship. For several years, Duane owned and operated Duane Cy Young Trucking. Many will remember Duane from his dedication to this business serving the needs of many throughout the Mohawk Valley, purchasing the business from John Gillen Trucking several years ago. The business is now operated by RD’s Trucking (Randy Dawley).

Duane had many interests including camping at Lewey Lake and the Thousand Islands, fishing, hunting and playing cards. He especially enjoyed the times with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren, great grandchildren and Siamese cats. He also belonged to Red Camp and was their longest living member.

Survivors include his beloved family, his wife Barbara at home, daughter, Rene Edick and husband Mike of Little Falls; grandchildren, Brandon and Ashley Edick and their daughter, Sarah, Cory Raymond Edick, Stephanie and Jeffrey Johnson and their children, Levi, Carter and Jacie, Christopher and Jenn Young and their daughter, Amelia and Nicholas Edick; siblings, Jack Young of Ilion, Darrell Young and wife Patty of Little Falls, Neil Young of Herkimer and Francis Pat Young of Mohawk, Phyllis Moffatt of Hoffmiester, Ohio, Dale McCaw of Mohawk, Dawn Kuckerak of Herkimer, Jill Young of Herkimer, Darlene Reynolds of Herkimer, Ronnie Dauback and husband Frank of Herkimer and Terry Kondratowicz of Mohawk; many nieces, nephews and cousins, too numerous to mention along with several dear friends throughout the valley. Also surviving is a daughter in law, Donna Young-Edick of Little Falls. He was preceded in death by beloved son, Raymond F. Young who passed away in 1991, and by his siblings, Sharon Camardello, Sherry Lynch, Joleen George and Charice Young.

A heartfelt thank you to health care worker, Carolee DiPiazza (EISEP organization). The family is deeply grateful to this entire staff of Hospice for the kindness and compassion they offered during this difficult time.

Relatives and friends are invited to Duane’s celebration of life on Saturday, May 8, 2021 commencing at 5 pm from Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5 (corner of Bidleman Road), Little Falls, 315-508-5131. Memorial visitation will be held prior to the service at MVFC from 2-5 pm. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, a facemask is mandatory inside the funeral home and social distancing is required
