Francis Joe M. Gressel

Mohawk, NY-Francis Minch Gressel, 88, of Mohawk, affectionately known as “Joe”, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, October 27, 2019 in St. Luke’s Medical Center. He spent his final days surrounded by his loving family telling jokes over, and over, and over again.  Besides his knack for telling “really good” jokes, Joe will be remembered for his flamingo hunts, countless pranks, his blue eyes, “workouts” at the gym (more like coffee and donuts), and his kindness to others. Joe was born on March 17, 1931, in Elmira, the son of the Frank and Helen Minch Gressel. Proudly served in the United State Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage with the former, Myra Hubish. Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, godfather, uncle, and a friend to everyone he met.  His family is heartbroken but so grateful that he was there to see his only granddaughter get married just three weeks ago.  He was one proud grandfather!!! Joe leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Myra; children and their spouses, who he considered to be his own-Mike (Ali), Karen (David), Kathy (Todd), and Joanne (Dave); his only granddaughter Nicole and her new husband Deown, and many grandpups who he adored.  Joe also leaves his nieces and nephews, amazing neighbors and an amazing circle of friends. In honor of his military service in the Korean War, his interment will be made in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, at a later date. In keeping Joe's wishes, there will be no calling hours or local services. Contributions, in Joe's memory, may be offered to a charity of one's choice.  Joe and his family's care has been entrusted to Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5,(Town of Manheim) , between Little Falls and St. Johnsville.
