Gordon K. "Kip" Garlock

June 5, 1949 — January 4, 2024

Mohawk, New York

Gordon K. "Kip" Garlock, age 74, of Heath Road, Mohawk (Town of German Flatts) departed this life on January 4, 2024 in the comfort of his home and in the presence of his family.

Kip was born in Little Falls, NY on June 5, 1949, son of the late Raymond G. and Mildred A. (Whitcomb) Garlock. He graduated from Mohawk High School in 1968 and went on to complete small business courses at Herkimer County Community College. In 1970, Kip married the former Patricia E. Tripple and was blessed with a son, Chad David W. Garlock.  He was formerly employed at Loviers Dairy in Herkimer, NY, UNIVAC in Ilion, and last employed at Whitcomb Pontiac in Little Falls, as an auto body mechanic. While working, he also helped on a small beef farm raising White-Faced Polled Hereford in Paines Hollow with his wife Pat and son Chad. Kip was a devoted husband, father and friend to all. Throughout his life, he enjoyed working on the farm and in the woods logging, cutting firewood and hunting.

On July 7, 1979, an accident, while pulling logs on his farm, left him paralyzed from the neck down. He then went back to his love of art and learned how to paint with hand splints and mouth with endless support from his wife Patricia, the love of his life and spent a lot of time with his family and friends.

Kip is remembered and survived by his wife Patricia; his son, Chad and beloved Eron; sisters, Sandra Jean (Garlock) McKenney and husband David of Sherburne, NY and Ellen Diane (Garlock) Goff and husband Gene of Albany, NY; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Kip was blessed to have had two special girls that grew up around him, and he thought the world of them and loved them dearly.  Kip’s family thanks the many doctors, nurses and aides who helped him throughout the years and the endless support of family and friends for their many acts of kindness and care for Kip during all the days of his life.

In keeping with Kip's wishes, services will be private and at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements for cremation are under the direction and care of the locally owned Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremation, 7507 State Route 5, between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131.
