James W. Curtis

July 6, 1959 — November 27, 2016

Mohawk, NY-James Wesley Curtis, known as Jim, fondly nicknamed ChromeDome by his friends and workmates, beloved Papa to his granddaughter Calypso; was born July 6, 1959 and passed away on Sunday, November 27th, 2016, at the age of 57.  He lived at 3659 State Route 168, Mohawk NY, 13407 with his wife Alice Curtis. He passed away in his home with Alice by his side due to a sudden heart attack. He enjoyed mowing the lawn on his rider mower, occasionally giving Calypso a ride. After a good day of working in the yard, he would sit outside by the edge of the river on the swing with his wife Alice and just watch the wild life, the trees, and the water, sipping on a bottle of beer. Together, Alice and Jim renovated two homes and were a great team of DIYers. He loved a good cup of coffee and for many years on Saturdays he went out on a breakfast-date with Alice and later they would watch Lawrence Welk in the evening, a ritual he began with his mother, Santella Curtis, while she lived in their home. He loved to take rides on his Harley Davidson motorcycle on beautiful sunny days. Lately, he had his own football helmet restoration business on Ebay. His favorite team since childhood was the Minnesota Vikings. He was a beloved member of the former Harvest Hills Baptist Church family, in Herkimer, NY. In recent years he was a member of the online church community for Grace Christian Assembly based in Smyrna, TN. His greatest passion in life was talking about Jesus. He loved God and wanted to share his love for God and save as many people as he could by talking about his faith. He spoke on many occasions at churches about how he became saved. One of his favorite movies was Young Frankenstein by Mel Brooks. He would quote that movie back and forth with his daughter, Elizabeth. This was a thing for them for years! They also quoted lines from The Princess Bride. Jim loved all kinds of music, particularly "oldies" from the 60’s and 70’s and he frequently won prizes from call in radio trivia quizzes. Old time Southern Gospel became a new favorite in the last few years. He is survived by his wife Alice Curtis, his eldest daughter, Elizabeth Warner married to Justin Warner, and a younger daughter, Rachel Curtis (aka Sarah Martinelli). HIs granddaughter is Calypso Curtis, and he was eagerly waiting for the arrival of Toby-Jay Wesley Warner. His siblings are Alan Curtis, Bill Curtis, and Theresa Curtis.
