James P. Swartz

Little Falls, NY-James P. "Jim" Swartz, age 80, of West Main Street, beloved husband of Beatrice A. Swartz, passed away suddenly on Wednesday morning, February 20, 2019.   He was born on January 9, 1938 in Bayside, Long Island, one of ten children, son of the late John C. and Jenny (Starin) Swartz.  Jim received his education on Long Island schools and also served in the military.  He was an educator, coach and principal at various places and times.  In 1956, he was united in marriage with Beatrice "Toni" Wilbur on Long Island.  Jim and his wife Toni worked in the missions fields with native Americans in South Dakota and Alaska, prior to moving to the Dolgeville area.  Jim was active as accountant in the local area with various businesses and farms.  From the time he was very young, the Catholic faith was very important to him.  From being a missionary in his early years to being involved with St. Joseph's Parish, Dolgeville in his later years, he had a heart to serve God and God's people. Jim remained very active and enjoyed playing basketball in his early years and tennis in later years, receiving a basketball scholarship when he was a young man.   Survivors include his beloved wife Toni of Little Falls, many siblings, nieces and nephews.  Kindly consider memorial offerings in his name to St. Joseph's Church, Dolgeville.   Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations (town of Manheim) between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131, has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.  There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, February 22, 2019 commencing at 10 am from St. Joseph's Church, Dolgeville with Father Terence Healy, officiating, assisted by Deacon James Bower.  There be an hour of visitation also on Friday, prior to the Mass from 9am-10am, at St. Joseph Church.  Interment will be later in the spring, in St. Joseph Cemetery, Dolgeville.  To light a candle or offer a memory, please click above.
