Jan Lee Dager

August 11, 1964 — January 9, 2023

Salisbury, New York

Mr. Jan Lee Dager, age 58, of Salisbury (Heller Rd), a lifelong Dolgeville area resident, passed away unexpectedly on January 9th, 2023.

Born in Little Falls on August 11, 1964 to Andrew F. and Lena (Nelson) Dager Jr. , Jan was a lifelong resident of the Dolgeville area. He attended local schools and worked at Daniel Greens and was last employed at Gehring-Tricot in Dolgeville.

Mr. Dager was a simple man with an attitude larger than life itself. He was never afraid to keep it real with anyone, but, if you had the pleasure of really knowing him he was a kind, caring, sentimental man that loved kiddos, his family, friends, animals, coffee, music and his left handed Lenny’s. He walked many miles strapping on his “shoe leather express” and had a nickname for whoever he encountered. He loved making people laugh and telling stories of his crazy antics. In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping on Powley Road in Stratford. He was an avid collector of wooden snowshoes, cast iron pans, and weird trinkets. He had a vocabulary only few could understand and you would usually get greeted with a “what’s happening” or a “shadoot".

Mr. Dager is survived by his daughter, Tara (“Hammer”) of Latham, NY, two cherished grandsons, Payton Andrew ("Ol’ Boy") and Carson ("Blue Eyes"); his siblings, Kathleen Daley of Little Falls, Evelyn ("Babe") Gould of Salisbury, Cynthia Roth and husband Joe of Anna TX. and Randy Dager of Little Falls; his lifelong friends, Guy Yatarola, Kevin Johnson and daughters Jennifer, Shawna, Janine Leigh who Jan loved like his own.  He also leaves his in-laws, John Lemche, Sr. (Kathy) and Beverly Dager of Dolgeville. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, other adopted children along the way who he loved dearly and harassed any chance he could.  He also leaves his pup, Mr. Stimples.

He was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Lena, his infant daughter, Alicia Mae, brother, Ronald Dager, sister, Sherry Lemche, niece, Tessa Dager, nephew, Ronald Dager Jr., his brothers in law and friends, Robert (Bob) Gould and Clint Daley, his good friends, Bobby and Billy Mitchell, Steve Johnson, and Leonard Lanphere. Last, but certainly not least, he was preceded in death by his pups, Hana Jane and his beloved black lab, Choo-Choo.

The family would like to offer their deepest gratitude to his niece, Brenda Foster, neighbors, Josh Luquis and Darren Longway, friend, Darlene, the NYS Police, WKTV, Bug Country, Morgan Linen Service and to everyone that has reached out during this difficult time.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction and care of Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, Town of Manheim, 315-508-5131.  Graveside services and a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 commencing at 10 am in Curtiss Cemetery, Salisbury.
