Janet L. (Suits) Tompson

July 18, 1939 — November 28, 2024

A lifelong St. Johnsville resident, Janet L. (Suits) Tompson, age 85, passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving evening, November 28, 2024, at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville.

She was born on July 18, 1939, in Little Falls, daughter of the late George and Hazel (Nagele) Suits and graduated from St. Johnsville Central School. In her early years, she was employed at Palatine Dye Company. There she met Jack Tompson, they were married on Feb. 21, 1959, and raised their three daughters in the Red House on Mill Road.

Janet was a true nature lover. She studied all wildlife from insects to the largest creatures on land and sea. A talented seamstress, she sewed many outfits for her girls and knitted countless winter hats for them and later, her grandchildren. After the girls were older, Janet enjoyed her years working at Central National Bank and Herkimer County Trust. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and The Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her daughters, Jennifer Whitney of Duanesburg, Jill Tompson of St. Johnsville and Julia (Brian) Tompson-Cyr of Amsterdam; her grandchildren, Benjamin (Cecelia) Czelusniak of Georgia, John Czelusniak, Jr. (Gabby), of Arizona, Marcus Whitney of Duanseburg, Mitchel Whitney of Duanesburg, MacKenzie Tompson of Martville; great grandchildren, Grace, Ella and Liam Czelusniak of Georgia, Rudy Czelusniak of Arizona, and Jack Tompson of Martville; her sister, Virginia Fox of St. Johnsville; brother in law, Thomas Tompson of Tennessee; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter, Kelsey Grace Whitney.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville for assisting with Janet’s peaceful transition to our Heavenly Father’s Care. In keeping with her wishes, services will be private and at the convenience of her family. Her funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Daniel J. Enea-Director of Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, between St. Johnsville and Little Falls, 315-508-5131.
