Jeremy A. "Jerry" Blum, age 77, a longtime Mohawk resident, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, August 7, 2024, at Wynn Hospital, Utica.
Jeremy was born in Herkimer on October 16, 1946, and was the son of Herman and Catherine (Gibson) Blum and the younger brother of twins, Richard (dec) and Roger Blum. He was a proud member of Herkimer High School Class of 1964 and a Utica School of Commerce graduate majoring in accounting. He served proudly in the US Army and served six years in the 102nd Military Police Battalion of the New York Army National Guard.
In 1971 he met his beloved wife, Carol, and they married on June 25, 1975. They were inseparable soul mates and enjoyed their lives and travels together. Jerry’s proudest times were spent raising his daughters, Courtney (Jeffrey Brown) and Tiffany (Michael Long), who always made him smile and he in turn spoiled and showered them with love.
Besides being an accountant and corporate controller for over forty years, Jerry had a love for the New York Yankees and collecting sports memorabilia. He opened Collector’s Corner in Mohawk which he operated for a decade. There, he shared his passion for collecting with many customers, ultimately selling his entire collection to his good friend, Alan Rosen.
Jerry’s quiet, dry humor earned him many friends. Whether he was driving his Corvettes, going to casinos, giving treats to Lola the cat, or watching the Yankees, he did not let his 1997 Parkinson’s diagnosis get in his way, and he made the best of every day. He was a proud member of Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post 25 and spent many afternoons there in jovial banter.
The family would like to thank those who have made an impact on Jerry’s life, especially friends S and J who checked on them daily. A private burial will be held at the Mohawk Cemetery on John Street at a later date. Per Jerry’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Please live by Jerry’s motto of living one day at a time. “May his memory be a blessing.”
Funeral arrangements are under the direction and care of Daniel J. Enea-Director of Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131. Should you wish to honor Jerry’s memory, please consider donating to The Parkinson’s Foundation, Crowley-Barnum Post 25, or the Herkimer County Humane Society.
