Joan Carol (Vesce) Dunn

BEDFORD, TEXAS-Joan Carol Dunn, 81, of Bedford, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on April 5, 2019.  Joan was born on January 7, 1938 in New York, New York, daughter of Ralph and Lucy Vesce.  She graduated from The Mary Louis Academy in 1955 and attended Lenox Hill Hospital School of Nursing in Manhattan, graduating with her Registered Nursing Degree in 1959.  She then began a long career in the nursing profession.  Joan married William Dunn, of Little Falls, New York on October 2, 1965 and they were happily married for 53 years.   Joan and William moved to Bedford, Texas with their family in 1982 where they made their home and became active members of St. Michael Catholic Church.  Joan was very active volunteering in the St. Michael Ladies’ Bazaar Craft Ministry.  In the late 1990’s she began a second career working for the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District, first as an Education Aid for Spring Garden Elementary and finally as a School Nurse for Bedford Junior High before retiring in 2001.   Joan is survived by her husband, William Dunn and her children Mary (Perry) Jacoby of Flower Mound, Texas and Paul (Nita) Dunn, her grandchildren Emily Jacoby, Andrew and Madeline Dunn and many nieces and nephews.  Joan was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Lucy Vesce. Joan was a devoted wife, mother, nurse and friend.  Always quick with a hug or a warm smile, it did not take her long to build lasting bonds with those who came into her life. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Joan can be made to the Smile Train, www.smiletrain.org and to the American Nurses Foundation, www.nursingworld.org. Vigil for the Dead will be held on Sunday, April 14th from 4-6pm at Forest Ridge Funeral Home, located at 8525 Mid Cities Blvd, North Richland Hills, and a Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 15th 11am at St. Michael Catholic Church located at 3713 Harwood Road, Bedford.  Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations (Town of Manheim), 7507 State Route 5, between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131 has been entrusted with local obituary publication arrangements by Joan's family in Little Falls, NY.
