Joanne (Smith) Hogan

March 27, 1959 — December 14, 2024

Mrs. Joanne Hogan, age 65, a lifelong St. Johnsville resident, beloved wife of Gary Hogan, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, December 14, 2024, in the comfort of her home, following a long battle with cancer. At the time of her passing, she had the love and support of her entire family at her bedside.

She was born on March 27, 1959, in Amsterdam, daughter of the late Ralph and Susan (Null) Smith and educated in Fort Plain schools. She was united in marriage with Gary B. Hogan in Fort Plain on August 20, 1988, a blessed union of 36 years. Joanne was employed with Johnstown Knit in Fort Plain for 15 years. She then was employed as a home health aide for the remainder of her working career, retiring at age 62. Joanne was a dedicated caregiver to many patients in her career as a home health aide. She enjoyed kayaking, camping, antiquing, trips to the casino, shopping with her girls, attending car shows with her husband and most of all, spending time with her loved ones. Her beloved pets Dixon and Chloe meant the world to her. Joanne’s greatest priority was to be a wife, mother and grandmother. She fostered the value of togetherness in her family and relished the times they spent together.

Survivors include her beloved family, her husband Gary at home; her daughters, Tania Fenstermacher and husband Paul of St. Johnsville, Tammy Mosher and husband Joseph of St. Johnsville, Tara Brooker and husband Kenneth of St. Johnsville; her son, Jeremy Hogan of St. Johnsville; twelve grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, Zachary, Amber, Kayla, Harold, Trevor, Tyler, Travis, Shadaya, Jaciey, and Leighton, five great grandchildren, Haven, Myla, Kolson, Waylon, and Hudson, all who she loved dearly. Her grandchildren truly embraced Joanne’s heart and life. Also surviving are her brother, Timothy P. Smith and wife Deborah of St. Johnsville, James F. Smith of St. Johnsville and Wayne A. Smith of Sharon Springs; many special nieces, nephews and cousins, in laws, Joyce Humphrey and Mary Hogan. She was predeceased by her sister, Carol (Smith) Mehaffy, by her brother, Ralph Smith, Jr., and by her brother, Jeffrey Smith.

The family would like to offer their gratitude to Tesiero Cancer Center, Amsterdam, especially Michelle and April for their kindness and compassion and to Mountain Valley Hospice for their care offered. Kindly consider contributions in Joanne’s name to the American Cancer Society.
