John Rota

July 21, 1921 — June 14, 2017

Ilion, NY-Mr. John “Johnny” Rota, age 95, a lifelong Ilion resident, passed away peacefully in the early morning of June 14, 2017 with his loving family by his side. John was born in Staten Island, NY on July 21, 1921. On December 28, 1942 he was united in marriage to Jenny Brandano of Herkimer, NY. They shared a blessed and devoted union of almost 65 years until her passing in 2007.  They had two daughters, Jennifer and Annette Gadziala (Rudy).  Annette passed away in 1998. John leaves behind his grandson, Rudy Gadziala (Nicole) and their daughter Marisol, a granddaughter, Michele Luke and her children, Sydney and Alexa.  He also has a large extended family with many special close relatives and friends. John was a plumber and lifelong member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union 112 (since 1948), where he served as past president.  For many years, he owned and operated his own plumbing and heating business. In addition, he served as the town of Frankfort Plumbing Inspector and was a member of the town of Frankfort Planning Board until his recent retirement in 2016. John was very active and dedicated to the Armory Hill Cemetery in Ilion and was a long-time board member. In keeping with Mr. Rota’s wishes, there are no calling hours.  There will be a private service at the family mausoleum in Armory Hill Cemetery, at a later date.    John spent several weeks at the Lutheran Rehabilitation Center in Clinton, where he received wonderful care.  The family would also like to extend their gratitude to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. especially the Abraham House and their staff and volunteers for their compassionate, loving care.  Please consider donations to the Abraham House,1203 Kemble St., Utica, NY 13501 in John’s memory or visit www.TheAbrahamHouse.org.  Daniel J.
