Jr. Melvin Donald Brown

May 2, 1956 — January 18, 2018

Herkimer, NY-Melvin Donald Brown, Jr.Melvin Donald Brown, Jr., age 61, loving companion of Robine L. Snow, passed away in the peace and comfort of his home, early Thursday morning, Jan. 18, 2018, following a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born May 2, 1956 in Ithaca, NY. At age six, he was adopted by the Boydston family of Waterville, NY where he grew up. He currently resided with his special girl Robine Snow of Herkimer, NY. It is said that for each person God specifically chooses a helpmate, a companion, the love of their life and for Melvin was his Princess Robine. They adored each other and were you saw one you saw the other. They were always together holding hands, laughing, kissing sharing the good times and the bad. Melvin had a faith that could move mountains and hearts. He was a hardworking man always striving to do his best. He was a man of faith and convictions and his word was his honor. He had a deep abiding love in his heart for his family and his Lord. He leaves behind Princess Robine whom he spent 16 years standing beside her, guiding her and loving her. He was last employed at St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Environmental Services. He retired in 2015 due to health concerns. Melvin was also employed for 10 years at Herkimer Area Resource Center as a janitor/bus monitor. Prior to that he worked for St. Luke’s Hospital for 15 years where he was second shift supervisor in Environmental Services. Mel was a hardworking man who took great satisfaction in a job well done.  Mel loved helping people and provided a listening ear when someone needed it or a strong back when they needed that. Melvin loved to play and especially enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. He often said that when he went fishing he drowned more worms than the number of fish he caught. He also liked riding his scooter with Robine. A poor substitute for his motorcycle but, it was what his Robine could handle and he wanted to please her. A great day for Mel included fishing and scooters. Melvin had the gift of gab and would talk to anyone. He was a home body and found satisfaction in working around the home. Given a few minutes and a couple of YouTube videos and he could fix anything. Melvin belonged to the Mohawk Reformed Church where he attended with Robine. He leaves behind his Robine, whom he spent 16 years sharing his life; his two sweet pug dogs Mia and Sasha; his loving daughter Ann her husband Carl; four granddaughters, Gabby, Chole, Hope and Elizabeth; a daughter, Brenda who preceded him in death. She left behind her husband Sam and a granddaughter Nikita. Melvin also leaves behind his loving mother Daphney Boydston of Florida; his father, Donald Boydston who preceded him in death; his brother, Douglas Boydston and wife Barbara of New Jersey; four sisters, Delisa Dean and her family, Dana Ellner and her family, Druanne Fridsma and her family of Florida and Daralyn Sybesma and her family of New Jersey.  He also leaves behind Robine's family, including her parents, Ron and Rose Snow and Randy Snow and his wife Amy, their children David, Alexandria, Zachary and Cassie Snow along with Veronica Gerdeau and her family. Melvin’s wishes were to be cremated and no public viewing. A Memorial Service is planned for February 17, 2018 commencing at 11 am at Mohawk Reformed Church, 26 S. Otsego St., Mohawk, NY with the Rev. Brian Engel, officiating.  Memorial contributions can be made in Melvin’s name to Mohawk Reformed Church. God Bless you all.  Daniel J.
