MOHAWK - LaVal F. “Butch” Holden of Mohawk, NY, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin and friend passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday April 10th, 2025.
Butch was born on December 13th, 1948, in Utica NY to the late LaVal R. Holden and Leona “Onie” (Trevor) Holden. He graduated from Ilion high school in 1968.
Butch is survived by his wife of 33 years, Suzie and their son Zack Holden. He is also survived by his first wife, Judy Nudo with whom they had three children, Jackie (Jim) Doremus of Herkimer, Trevor (Mary) Holden of Mohawk and Jason (Stephanie) Holden of Mohawk. Butch leaves behind 10 beloved grandchildren, Tyler, Samantha, Jonathan, Savannah, Marisa, Angel, Trevor Jr, Lexi, Logan, Ella and one great grandson Niko. Also, his beloved canine companions Shatzie, Molly and Sam.
He was predeceased by his two younger brothers Kim Holden and Scott Holden and is now reunited with many beloved friends.
Butch loved life and could always be found riding his Harley with the wind in his face. To those who didn't know him, Butch’s appearance was intimidating but to his family, friends and especially his grandchildren who lovingly called him “Poppy Butch” he was a teddy bear. In his later years, Butch enjoyed nothing more than going for a ride, side by side with his boys and longtime friends around Canadarago Lake.
Furthermore, if Butch ever found out that friends or family were traveling to Florida, he had no qualms about asking you to bring him back a case or TWO of Duke’s mayonnaise.
A special mention to Karen Mower for the kindness and compassion she showed to Butch and the entire family while in the hospital.
In accordance with Butch’s wishes, there will be no services, however, all are welcome to attend a celebration of life at the Mohawk American Legion on Friday April 18th at 4:00 PM.
Graveside services to be held at a later date.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Mohawk Valley Funerals & Cremations.
