Linda Lou Prew Allen

Rockwood/Oppenheim, New York

Linda Prew Allen, age 72, lost her two-year battle with cancer to gain her angel wings peacefully on Sunday, September 24, 2023 with her loving family at her side.

She was born on Sept. 18, 1951, in Gloversville, to Ralph and Sylvia Ackerknecht Prew.  She graduated with the Oppenheim Ephratah Central School, “Class of 1970”.  Linda furthered her education and graduated from Motlow Tennessee College.  She spent many years in Tennessee, returning home to the Mohawk Valley in 2009.

Linda was a driver for the Amish, which she enjoyed doing.  She loved the quiet life in her little house.  Linda had various jobs in her short life ranging from store clerk, manager, to running her own daycare in Tennessee.

Linda is survived by her mother, Sylvia Cheney of Rockwood, son, Raymond Matis and Ashly of Lassellsville, daughter, Ann Marie Matis of Tullahoma, TN, a sister, Penny Martish and husband Richard of Johnstown, a brother, Herbert Cheney and wife Katrina of Caroga Lake, her granddaughters, Katelyn Payne and husband Clint, Jaime and husband Stacey, Kelly, Shyan Minor and husband Logan, Mackenzie Lawyer, Abby, Rose Matis, a grandson, Joseph Matis, seven great grandchildren, an aunt, Alice Ackerknecht of Johnstown, many nieces, nephews and cousins, special friends, John Rhinehardt, Kelly Munson and also her many Amish friends.  She also leaves her dearest friend and fur baby, Cassidy.  She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Prew, brothers, Ralph Jr and Ralph, III, her stepfather, Herbert Cheney, a grandson, Joshua Matis, maternal grandparents, Karl and Flora Ackerknecht, and by her paternal grandparents, Narcissus and Sarah Prew. 

In respecting Linda’s wishes, there will be no services.  A celebration of her life will take place at the convenience of the family.  The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice and their entire staff for their care offered and to Robin, Missy and also to the Rev. RW Williams for his compassion.  Thank you also to Linda’s loving niece, MaryAnn Orvitt, whom she loved very much.  Arrangements for simple cremation are under the direction and care of the locally owned and operated Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, between St. Johnsville and Little Falls, 315-508-5131.
