Lucy Ann (Palkowski) Helmer, 69, of Loomis Street, Little Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Utica. At the time of her passing, she had the love and support of family at her side.
She was born on June 11, 1952 in Little Falls daughter of the late William and Annette (Diodati) Palkowski. Lucy graduated from Little Falls High School, "Class of 1970". She furthered her education graduating from Herkimer County Community College with an Associates Degree. On August 2, 1975, Lucy was united in marriage with Kenneth P. Helmer at St. Joseph's Church, Little Falls; a loving and devoted union of nearly 46 years. She was last employed with Benton Hall Academy as a lunch monitor and the after school program retiring in 2020. Being a faith filled woman, Lucy was a devoted member of Holy Family Parish teaching faith formation to children for approximately 20 years and was a member of Holy Family Rosarians.
Lucy was a quiet soul who loved the simple things in life such as travelling, flower gardening, hot air balloons, reading scriptures and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and family gatherings. But most of all, her family were blessings that lit up her life.
Surviving are her husband Ken, daughters, Dawn McCumber, Annette Helmer (Rodney), grandchildren, Braden and Marya, step-grandchildren, Kylie and Brianna, sister Joanna Macri (Joe) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandmother Lucia Diodati who was like a mother to her, mother and father, William and Annette Palkowski, and her in laws, Leon and Betty Helmer.
Lucy and her family's care has been placed in the trust of Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5 (corner of Bidleman Road), Little Falls, 315-320-3931. In respecting her wishes, family and close friends are invited to attend her wake service at MVFC on Wednesday, July 28th from 6 to 8pm. Her Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Sts., Little Falls on Saturday, July 31, 2021 commencing at 9 am. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer. The Rev. Brian Slezak, pastor, will officiate. Friends and family are invited to attend a luncheon at Little Falls Elks Club following the burial.
