Margaret Ann "Margie" Lonis

May 16, 1933 — February 16, 2024

Mohawk, New York

Mrs. Margaret Ann “Margie” Lonis, age 90, of State Route 5s, Mohawk, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, Feb. 16, 2024, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving daughters.

She was born on May 16, 1933, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Pohina) Kramer and educated in Little Falls schools, was of the Catholic Faith and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy, Little Falls.  She attended the Utica School of Commerce.  She was united in marriage with Robert D. “Buddy” Lonis on Aug. 27, 1955 at St. Mary’s Church, Little Falls, a loving and devoted union of 60 years until his passing on Nov. 28, 2015.  Father Joseph Regar officiated the marriage and Robert Hanley was their best man and Eleanor (Hanley) Lonis was the maid of honor.  Mrs. Lonis was last employed with Salada Tea and worked at one time as a switchboard operator with the former Allegro Shoe Company.

Margie, as she was affectionately known as by family and friends, enjoyed attending Slovenian polka parties and polka music and dancing with her daughter, Sandy.  She enjoyed watching birds in her bird feeders.  Margie had a huge love for her home in the country that she built with her husband and was extremely proud of the life and family they created together at their home.  The Lonis family spent many wonderful summers at Piseco Lake.  In fact, the family’s greatest memory was at Piseco in July of 2023 where the whole family was able to get together for ten days, including Margie’s three daughters, son in law, grandson and his wife Angel, her five great grandchildren, her fur friends, and many close friends.  Margie passed at home in the care of her daughters, fulfilling her wish to be at peace and in the comfort of her own home for her final days.  She lived her life with humility, preferring to make a difference without fanfare. Her daughters carry on her legacy of grace and kindness. Margie had the quality of being a great person.  The basic necessities were always there, love, peace, harmony, and contentment.  She will be sadly missed by all those who had the fortunate experience of knowing her.

Survivors include her devoted family; her daughters, Sandy Lonis of Little Falls, Mary Jo Carrig of Little Falls and Linda Skibinski husband Dale, of Oppenheim; her cherished grandson, Brian Robert Carrig and wife Angel of Sacramento, CA; adored great grandchildren, Falynn, Paisley, Bodhi, Neil and Poppy.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews including, Frank Schwasnick and wife Roseann and Gary Schwasnick and wife Beth, cousins including, Elsie Synenki, Josie Smith and in laws including, Eleanor Hanley.  Also surviving are two God children, Julie and Cynthia Gabriel, her beloved fur friends, Luna and Finn and close friends, Donna Lamb and Richard McLaughlin. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Marie Lonis in 1969 and by her siblings, Mary Schwasnick and husband Frank, Bertha Kramer, Frank Kramer and Joseph Kramer.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131 on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 from 5-7 pm.  The funeral for Mrs. Lonis will commence at 10:30 am on Wednesday, Feb. 21st from the chapel of the funeral home where a transfer prayer will take place and at 11 am from Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Sts., Little Falls where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev.
