Marie H. McGowan

A lifelong Mohawk/Ilion resident, Mrs. Marie H. McGowan, age 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, Oct. 11, 2023 at Valley Health Services, Herkimer.

She was born in Mohawk on February 22, 1927, daughter of the late Lillian Riggs and Walter Hopper. Marie was united in marriage to Archibald H. McGowan on October 30, 1948 in Niagara Falls. They celebrated a wonderful union of 54 years, until his passing.

Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Shelley and Christopher Day of Little Falls, her grandchildren, Corey Day and Heather (Peter Berowski) and two treasured great grandchildren, Archie and Henry, a special friend, Cathy Hannah and her niece, Susan Randazzo. Marie was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy, Pearl, Joeanna, Georgianna and MaryElla and by her brothers, Ted, Fred, Sherill, Walter, Jr. and Herb.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Valley Health Services for the care and compassion shown to Marie during her stay with them. They also would like to specifically thank Alison, Mary Carol and Kristin for being so compassionate and for showing such kindness towards Marie. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in the Frankfort Center Cemetery.  There are no calling hours.
