Marie E. (Rockwell) Florian

Mrs. Marie E. (Rockwell) Florian, 75, of State Route 170, entered eternal rest in the comfort of her home and in the presence of her devoted family on Sunday morning, September 1, 2024.

Marie was born on October 18, 1948 in Little Falls, daughter of the late Clifford and Charlotte (Kast) Rockwell and educated in Little Falls schools. Marie was last employed as a custodian with the West Canada Valley School. She was united in marriage to her lifelong love, Kurt H. Florian,
Jr., in Middleville, New York, on February 3, 1968. This union lasted over 57 years until the passing of Kurt on Aug. 2, 2024. The family’s fondest memories include many great times at their camp at Chamount and the special attention Kurt and Marie gave to their family, especially their grandchildren.

Marie’s greatest priority was to be a wife, sister, mother and grandmother. She fostered the value of togetherness in her family and relished the times they spent together. The Florian home became the go-to place for many gatherings; they constantly made the comfort of all important and created traditions which made for many fond memories. Marie was graced with a “one of a kind” personality that was admired for her genuine kindness and her straight forwardness. Marie told it like it was and she will be forever remembered for that along with her many special qualities.

She is survived by his beloved family: her children, Kurt H. Florian, III “Bucky,” and Karie L. Florian; her sisters, Adda Gorinshek and Betty Lanphere; a brother, Wayne Rockwell and wife Sheila; her grandchildren, Brittney Florian (Josh Darling), Kurt H. Florian, IV (Melissa), Kyle Fuller, and Shelby Pula (Michael); several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins. She was preceded in death by a son, Rex Allen Florian, by a brother, Clifford “Skip” Rockwell and by her sister, Gail Gross.

Marie has requested that her funeral arrangements be entrusted into the care of Daniel J. Enea-Director of Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131. The Florian family will receive relatives and friends at MVFC on Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 1-3 pm. A funeral service will commence at 3 pm at the conclusion of calling hours on Saturday with the Rev. Mark Hediger, pastor of the Salisbury Community Church, officiating. Burial will be private at Middleville Cemetery. It is the wish of the family that contributions in loving memory of Marie be considered to the Herkimer County Humane Society, 514 State Route 5s, Mohawk, NY 13407. Envelopes are available at the funeral home for this purpose.
