Mary K. ( Zangrone) Costello, 89, a lifelong resident of Utica, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, on Monday morning, March 13, 2023 at Masonic Care Community.
Mary was born in Utica, NY on April 22, 1933 and lived at St. John's Home, Utica, NY, with her sister, Santina. Mary was one of three children born to Carmella (Rugara) Zangrone and John Zangrone. She graduated from Utica Catholic Academy and worked at Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome, NY as a budget analyst until retirement. Mary had an awesome marriage with her husband, Richard "Dick" Costello of 38 years, until his passing in 2016. They loved being together, golfing, traveling, especially Tuscany, Italy.
Mary was a true lady, always conscientious about the way she presented herself. Mary had a special bond with her sister, Santina. There was not a day that went by without them communicating in some way. They comforted each other in difficult times and shared joy in happy times. Mary loved family. She treated her nephews and nieces as if they were her own. She loved to golf, absolutely loved Frank Sinatra and all his music. She also loved going to the casino with her husband, Dick. She cherished holidays with family and all the great dinners that came with it. She would have fun filled summers at her sisters house swimming in the pool and just enjoying the day. In her later years, when living with her niece, Mary Rose, she discovered she loved dogs. She was especially fond of Molly and Molly was just as fond of Mary. Since her husband's death in 2016, Mary never really recovered. She just missed him so much it was unbearable at times. All in all, Mary had a wonderful life with her husband, Dick and family.
Mary is survived by her sister, Santina Wurz and brother-in-law, Ted Wurz, sister-in-law, Carol Zangrone , several nieces and nephews as follows, Mary Rose, Laura and Bob Zaloom, Ted and his friend, Maryanne Douglas, John and Vivian Wurz, David and Wendy Wurz, great nieces and nephews, Mark Malinowski, John and Amanda Wurz, Stacy and Jason Alamond, Michael Wurz and Finance Maria Pawlak, Rose Zaloom, Michael Zaloom and finance Sarah Gerace, Thomas and Karen Wurz, and Ted and Loretta Wurz as well as many great, great nieces and nephews.
