Mr. Michael James Barry, of Rock Hill Road, town of German Flatts, a Herkimer native, passed away suddenly on Saturday evening, December 12, 2020 in his home, at the age of 44. His untimely passing was the result of a natural cardiovascular related event.
He was born in Ilion on August 4, 1976, son of the late Francis “Chip” Barry, Jr. who passed away in 2011 and Sandra (Karla) Barry of Herkimer. He attended Herkimer schools graduating with Herkimer High School, “Class of 1994”. He enjoyed a loving and devoted relationship with Renee Rouillier and the couple was blessed with six children. Michael was a responsible, dedicated employee with The Grand Nursing and Rehab, Ilion where he was a cook/supervisor serving the residents for over 20 years. He made many friendships at the nursing home and he will be sorely missed there.
A natural born musician, Mike was an extraordinary and accomplished bass player and played with several bands including Paines Hollow, Spun and lastly, Elements of Design. He was passionate about music and it was a very important part of his life. Mike was a very likeable person who made friends easily and kept them forever. Family was the core of his life and his loved ones were so important to him.
Left to share his wonderful spirit with the world are his loving companion, Renee at home in Mohawk; six cherished children, Evan, Addison, Clifford, Marrieon, Zahiem and Lawrence and his mother Sandra of Herkimer. He also leaves many dear and devoted friends who will always cherish the wonderful memories created.
Michael and his family's care has been placed in the trust of Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, Little Falls, 315-508-5131. Traditional funeral services will take place on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 12 pm from the funeral home where Michael's life will be celebrated. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home also on Wednesday from 10am until 12 pm, prior to the service. Procession will follow to Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, following the funeral service, where he will be laid to rest with his father. The family would like to offer their most sincere gratitude to the EMT's from MOVAC along to the New York State Police and BCI Investigators for their professionalism, caring and compassion offered on Saturday evening.
