Mr. Samuel Lapides Zim Barstein

January 9, 1929 — September 24, 2017

Ilion, NY-Samuel Lapides "Zim" Barstein, born January 9, 1929, passed away September 24, 2017 at Little Falls Hospital.   He was born in New Haven, CT and served in the US Army and graduated with a degree in journalism from Boston University.  He is survived by his daughter, Mindy Barstein and the late Thomas Davenport of Ilion; son, Fred Barstein and wife Diane; grandchildren, Jenna Miller and husband Andrew, Max and Nate Davenport, Rebecca and Sachi Barstein; a brother and sister in law, Noel and Harriet Barstein.  He spent his career in broadcasting and that passion continued with Tom and Mindy.  He spent his last years living with them loved and well cared for.   A special thank you to Erin Treen and all of our friends.  Zim loved sports, especially the Jets and he and Mindy spent his last days reminiscing about their lives together. He was proud of his Jewish faith and being a Kohan. A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Temple Beth Joseph,  Prospect Street, Herkimer, with Rabbi Dr. Ronald B. Kopelman, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.  Daniel J. Enea Funeral and Cremation Care, 5860 State Route 5 (near St. Mary's Cemetery), between Herkimer and Little Falls, 315-508-5250, has been entrusted with Sam's funeral arrangements.
