Nancy L. Monohan

December 5, 1936 — January 6, 2025

Nancy L. Monohan, 88, of Ilion, NY, peacefully entered eternal rest on Monday, January 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on December 5, 1936, in Herkimer, NY, Nancy was the cherished daughter of the late James Frederick “Fred” and Leah (Brunett) Bower. She spent her formative years in Ilion, NY, where she cultivated a love for the beauty of nature, particularly during her time spent at Kayuta Lake. A proud graduate of Ilion High School, Class of 1954, Nancy embarked on a life devoted to family and meaningful contributions to her community.

Nancy married the late James Noffer on January 26, 1957, and together they shared 20 years of marriage. Her professional journey included roles at The New York Telephone Company, Herkimer Motel, and Foltsbrook Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. However, her most treasured role was that of a nurturing and devoted mother to her children. In later years, Nancy found great happiness in her marriage to the late Christopher Monohan, with whom she shared 44 joyful years of partnership. Together, they owned and operated Monohan Trailer Park in Ilion for over four decades, creating a vibrant and welcoming community that brought them immense pride and joy.

Nancy’s love and legacy will live on through her children: Susan (Delbert) Ball of Herkimer, NY; Daniel (Dawn) Noffer of Little Falls, NY; Christie Noffer of Ilion, NY; Christine Noffer of Ilion, NY; Diane Dicob of Mohawk, NY; and Randy (Julie) Monohan of Harrisburg, NC. Her nurturing presence extends to her grandchildren: Megan Ball, Erika Ball (Keenon Trevor), Bailey Noffer, Dylan Noffer, Cody Noffer, Jordan Bennett, Kirsten Holt, Jason (Catrina) Noffer, Brad (Megan) Sherwood, Jennifer (Andrew) Dicob, Jennifer Monohan, Misty Nua; as well as numerous great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, Fred and Leah Bower; her husbands, Christopher Monohan and James Noffer; her sons, Timothy Noffer and Michael Noffer; her brother-in-law, Richard Monohan, brother-in-law, Tom Monohan, son-in-law, Donald Dicob; and her beloved fur-babies Chloe, Katie, Kiki, Micky, Molly, and Snoopy.

Nancy’s radiant smile left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She will be remembered as a woman of grace and strength who found joy in life’s simplest pleasures: weekends spent at Kayuta Lake with the “Bower 5,” boat and convertible rides, floating in the pool, campfires, ice cream dates, manicures, fall foliage tours, and quiet mornings with a good book, and a warm cup of coffee. Nancy wore many endearing titles - Mom, Ma, Nana, Onna, Neema, Gram, and Grandma - but her true legacy lies in the profound love and care she effortlessly gave to all who knew her.

Her passing leaves an unfillable void in the lives of her family, friends, and all those hearts she touched. May she always be remembered as “the lady with the beautiful smile.”

Nancy’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nursing staff at Valley Health Services, especially Louis, for the exceptional care, compassion, and support they provided to Nancy during her final days. Their kindness and dedication brought comfort and peace to Nancy and her loved ones. A heartfelt thank you is also extended to Dr. Mustafain Meghani and the nursing staff at Bassett Healthcare.

A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Herkimer VFW. Family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her are warmly invited to gather in her honor. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Daniel J. Enea, Director of Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, Little Falls, NY, 315-508-5131.
