Norma (Ashe) Gehring

Mrs. Norma Gehring, age 89, a lifelong Little Falls resident passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, December 20, 2023 at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, with her family at her side.

She was born on January 13, 1934 in Little Falls, daughter of the late John and Evelyn (Zimmerman) Ashe and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy.  She was united in marriage on December 25, 1955 to Donald A. Gehring.  Mr. Gehring passed away on Nov. 8, 2014 after a union of 59 years.  In her early years, Mrs. Gehring worked for Herkimer County Trust Bank as a teller.  In her later years, she was a farmer’s wife assisting her husband in the operation of the family farm. She was always there to run out for a part and even bring a sandwich to the workers in the field.  She was last employed at the Little Falls School District in the cafeteria, retiring in 1999.  She was a former member of the Farm Bureau.

Norma enjoyed and looked forward to her Friday lunch date with the girls.  Her pride and joy was her family, especially her grandchildren.  She loved the times spent at her camp on Pine Lake.  

Survivors include her cherished family, her son, Eric Gehring and wife Kelly of Little Falls; her grandchildren, Kristina Tomei and husband Jason of Buffalo, Jason Gehring of Little Falls and Emily Gehring of Little Falls; two great grandchildren, Nick and Max Tomei.  She was preceded in death by her brother, John Ashe.  Also surviving are nieces, nephews, cousins, a sister in law, Irene Ashe of Dolgeville and a special friend, Roseanne Schwasnick.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects to the Gehring family at Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131, on Friday, Dec. 22, 2023 from 4-6 pm.  A service to conclude the evening will begin at 6 pm on Friday, also at Dan Enea's funeral home location on Route 5.  Spring interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
