Ames/Canajoharie, NY-Mrs. Shirley A. Colegrove, 83, of 4215 State Route 5s, Fultonville, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning, May 9, 2021 at St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, with the love and support of the devoted aides at St. Johnsville Nursing, at her bedside along with the support of her son, Randy, who was able to spend her final day with her.

She was born on May 13, 1937, in Amsterdam, daughter of the late Charles and Beulah (Fox) Winsman and educated in Fonda Fultonville schools. She was united in marriage with the love of her life Ronald Colegrove in 1958, a loving and devoted union of several years until his passing on December 27, 2017. The couple met at the Fonda Fair. Shirley retired after several years of dedicated service from Beechnut, Canajoharie.

Mrs. Colegrove along with her husband were avid campers spending many wonderful times enjoying great times with their family and friends. In her leisure time, Mrs. Colegrove enjoyed baking cookies for her family and friends. A well known woman in the Ames and Canajoharie area, she belonged to the Ames and Canajoharie Ladies Fireman Auxiliary and created many great memories here as a devoted member. The love and affection that Mrs. Colegrove provided her family, her children and grandchildren was immeasurable. She will be forever remembered as a constant support to her late husband and a rock to lean on to each and every one of her cherised loved ones.

Survivors include his son, Randy (Dawn) Colegrove of Canajoharie, granddaughter, Shelby (Josh) Randall of Randall, Travis (Caitlin) Colegrove of Canajoharie, brother, James Winsman of Fonda, sisters in law, Linda Winsman of Randall, and Dawnna Winsman of Johnstown, two special nieces, MaryAnn Fancher of Amsterdam and Lori Fancher of Palatine Bridge, niece, Deanna Marsh of Fort Plain, nephew, Robert Watkins, II of St. Simons Island, GA, along with several other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Winsman and by her sister, Jean Fancher and husband, Sonny.

There will be a celebration of life for Shirley at at time to be announced at Fort Plain Cemetery, where she will be buried with her husband. Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5 (town of Manheim), between St. Johnsville and Little Falls, 315-508-5131, has been entrusted with Mrs. Colegrove’s arrangements for cremation, proudly serving the Canajoharie area.

The family is deeply grateful to the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Johnsville Nursing and Rehab, especially mentioning Brittany, Gerricka, Mary and Cindy for three and a half years of wonderful caretaking.
