Shirley O. Casler

Little Falls, NY-Mrs. Shirley O. Casler, 84, of Paradise Road, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 18, 2018. She was born on Feb. 26, 1933 in Ilion, raised in Newport and the daughter of the late Walter and Olive (Tainter) Olmsted.  She was the salutatorian of her high school graduating class in the West Canada school district.  She then went on to attend the Utica School of Commerce.  While raising her family she continued her education at Mohawk Valley Community College as well as SUNY Utica Rome where she obtained her bachelors degree in human services.  Shirley was united in marriage on August 23, 1952 in Newport with Irving E. Casler.  Mr. Casler preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1993.  Her last employment was with Herkimer County, where she was employed a social worker.   Shirley, in her earlier years, loved to dance.  She enjoyed gardening, being outdoors and fishing on Lake Ontario, with her friend Bill in later years.  She was a wonderful singer and enjoyed listening to her favorite music.  Mrs. Casler will be missed and forever remembered by all who knew her. Survivors include her beloved family; her children, Linda Casler Schmidt and husband Walker of Barneveld, Mark S. Casler of Little Falls and very special companion, Lee Ann Lambertson, Sally Casler and friend Mark Grizella of Little Falls, Susan Casler Bladek and husband Bill of Little Falls; Betsy Casler of Dolgeville, Daniel Casler and wife Karen Bladek Casler of Little Falls and Paul Casler and wife Lisa of Mocksville, NC; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; her siblings, Walter Olmsted of Arizona and Lester Olmsted and wife Bev of Richfield Springs. She was preceded in death by a  beloved daughter and son in law, Nancy Casler Kochan and husband James.  She was also predeceased by her cherished grandson, Chester Kochan, Jr.  Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5 (town of Manheim), between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131, has been entrusted with Shirley's funeral arrangements. Relatives and friends are invited to memorial visitation on Friday, February 23, 2018 from 4-6 pm at the funeral home and also to Shirley's funeral service commencing at 6 pm also on Friday at Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, Little Falls.  The Casler family would like to thank the first responders who were at the home on Sunday, for their professionalism along with the emergency staff at Little Falls Hospital for their care and concern.  Memorial contributions in Shirley's name may be sent to the American Red Cross or Amnesty International.  To add to her online memorial, click above.
