Steven R. "Steve" Bernier

Steven R. "Steve" Bernier, 65, a native of Herkimer, most recently of Ilion, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, January 17, 2025, at Alpine Nursing and Rehab, Little Falls following a battle with cancer.

Steve was born on June 5, 1959, in Rome and was the son of the late Claude and Barbara (Hutton) Bernier. He was educated in Herkimer schools, until enlisting with the US Army. He joined on June 28, 1976, and was honorably discharged June 25, 1979, receiving an honorable discharge. Steve was rightfully proud of his career with the Army. He was an expert hand grenade marksman. Steve can be remembered as the Wise Potato Chip "Wise Guy" where he was last employed.

Survivors include his sister, Sandra Salazar of Ilion, sister, Colleen Bible and husband Javier Yeset of Mohawk, brother, Jeff Bernier of Clinton, his dear and devoted friend, Dan White of Greene, NY and several friends from Herkimer High School. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and cousins.

His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Daniel J. Enea-Director of Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131. A military memorial celebration of Steve's life will commence at 12 noon on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at MVFC. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home from 11am until 12pm on Saturday, prior to the service. Burial will take place at a later date.
