Thomas Jay “Tom” Sherman, age 80, a longtime Little Falls resident, passed away on Monday evening, December 4, 2023 at Wynn Hospital, Utica, following a long illness.  He had the love and support of his family by his side, when his passing occurred. 
 
Tom was born on November 26, 1943 in Little Falls, NY, son of the late Carl and Marguerite (Mosher) Sherman.  He attended school in Oneida, NY prior to moving to Little Falls.  Tom was united in marriage with the love of his life, Janice Hanlon, on April 23, 1977.  They shared five children.  He was employed for many years at MDS as the sewage plant operator, also worked for the New York Central Railroad.  Tom was the owner and operator of Sherman’s Boat Repair - the work he loved the most.  He was a skilled carpenter and took pride in his work.  
 
Tom enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing.  Loved every moment with his wife visiting Maine and Rhode Island to fish and just drink in the beauty of it.   He was a proud Mason and enjoyed his NASCAR.  He and his wife spent many years in their RV traveling to the numerous tracks and loving life together. Tom was a member of the East Herkimer Fire Department for nearly 10 years and played Santa at the holiday gatherings.  
 
Tom is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janice Sherman whom in his final days he sang to her “Could I have this dance”.  He is also survived by his brother Charles Kopp and his wife Joann; children, Thomas (Shelley) Sherman, James Daley (Lynn Godding), Cindy Reese (John Krowicki), John (Lydia) Daley; grandchildren, Katrina (Neil) Roberts, Zachary (Ciaira) Reese, Janice Reese (Shannon Thompson), Samantha Sherman, Samantha (Daniel) Sommers and Rebecca Daley; great-grandchildren, Olivia Roberts, Carson Jay Winston Roberts, Mae Sommers and Coral Brooks; in-laws, Edward (Betty) Hanlon and Antonia (John) Akerley. He is also survived by cherished nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, son, Allen Sherman on December 5, 1986 and sister-in-law, Patricia Hanlon.
 
Services will be held at the convenience of his family.  There are no calling hours, per his wishes.  His funeral arrangements are under the direction and care of the Little Falls owned Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5, between Little Falls and St. Johnsville, 315-508-5131.
